Community

Deaf Focus can assist you with community services such as advocacy, education and resources, Amercian Sign Language (ASL) classes, life transitions assistance and job training and retention support.

Communication

Deaf Focus provides sign language classes, communication intervention and support with employers, and sign language interpreting as needed.

Counseling

We offer counseling services, with licensed therapists who are familiar with deafness and who are fluent in sign language. We also provide behavior intervention support, and education and resources for parents, families and professionals.

Who we are
Meet the Deaf Focus Services Team!
Paula Rodriguez, MSW, LCSW, CSSW-S, and CT Paula founded Deaf Focus Services in 2009 to provide community, communication and counseling support for the Deaf community and families who have children who are deaf or hard of hearing.A graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and LSU, Paula is a licensed clinical Social Worker specializing in child and family therapy and behavior management and intervention. Paula is familiar with deafness and the impact of hearing loss on families. She is a nationally certified sign language interpreter with over 25 years of experience. Paula has worked as a sign language interpreter, school social worker, and therapist. She provides consultation to teachers and counselors. She also provides trainings and workshops related to deafness, sign language, and behavior management.Andrew VeithAndrew, Deaf Focus' Operations Manager, provides a wide variety of support to Deaf Focus as we work to provide community, communication and counseling access for the Deaf community. Andrew is a member of many organizations such as the Louisiana Association for the Deaf, Louisiana Registry Interpreter for the Deaf, and the American Sign Language Teachers Association. He is an outspoken advocate and emerging leader in the community. Jennie Bourgeois,MEd and NICJennie serves as Deaf Focus' Training and Development Manager. She works with various populations including hearing professionals, deaf community members, sign language interpreters and hard of hearing individuals in providing training resources and opportunities.Jennie received her Masters in Education from Northeastern University in Boston and her undergraduate degree from Louisina State University in Baton Rouge. She has extensive experience in advocacting for communication access for deaf and hard of hearing populations and other related ADA issues. Jennie is as a national certified interpreter and has been providing sign language interpreting services for almost 20 years throughout the community. She provides trainings and workshops on a variety of topics as well as private consultations.Landon WalkerLandon, Deaf Focus' Support Services Manager, provides a wide variety of support to Deaf Focus as we work to provide community, communication and counseling access for the Deaf community.Landon's has 18 years of professional experience providing support services for both the Deaf and hearing community. He is an interpreter and has worked with employment support services in many roles. Landon was raised as a part of the Deaf community by parents who are Deaf. He has a heart for the community and an interest in supporting young adults to be as independent as possible.
